Stocking Up For Home Remedies

Get your winter cupboard stocked for some tried and true home remedies…

Vitamin C and zinc supplements

Stop that cold in its tracks before it has a chance to reach you. Vitamin C prevents infections while zinc is vital for maintaining the immune system.

Salt

Gargle a salt and warm water mixture for relief from a sore throat.

Packet soup

Perfect for keeping younger patients fed, warm and hydrated, you can also blend some flu-fighting ingredients into it that your child is fussy about eating.

Ginger

Renowned for its health benefits, this spice can help with colds and allergies and tastes delicious blended into soup.

Honey

A teaspoon of honey can help ease throat pain in minutes.

Menthol or eucalyptus oil

Put several drops into a bowl of hot water. Place a towel over your head to cover you and the bowl and inhale the steam – it can be a lifesaver for a stuffy nose. Alternatively you could also place a few drops into your bath or take a steamy shower.

Fruit juice

It will keep you or your child hydrated and gives an extra boost of vitamins.

Tissues

There’s nothing like having a cold and realising you’ve run out of tissues! We love tissues that have aloe vera or eucalyptus in them to help clear the nose.
