How To…Chop An Onion

Notorious for causing tears, onions can be a pain to chop. Just follow our step-by-step instructions for the perfectly diced onion

Method

1. Peel the onion and slice in half, keeping the root intact.

2. With the cut-side of the onion flat on the chopping board slice the onion finely from one edge to the other. Do not slice the onion all the way through, leave about 1cm of the root intact.

3. Hold the onion at the root end and make 4-5 horizontal cuts with your knife from the top of the onion to the root, stopping 1cm short of the root end.

4. Holding the onion at the root end, slice the onion across from top to bottom. Cut all the way to the end of your onion, leaving about 1cm from the root. The result is a perfectly diced onion!
